GrimVault
What is GrimVault?
GrimVault is a high-performance, screen capture-only overlay designed for Dark and Darker. It provides detailed information about items when you hover over them in the game.
How does GrimVault work?
GrimVault periodically captures screenshots of your game window and uses OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to detect when you're hovering over an item. It retrieves detailed item statistics, including estimated prices and the best possible rolls for secondary attributes, from the
DarkerDB API.
Why is GrimVault not working?
Please ensure your game is running in Windowed Fullscreen mode and that your game brightness is at least 2.5.
Why is the GrimVault installer so large?
The UI part of GrimVault runs in an Electron app which creates notoriously large installers. All of the heavy duty screen reading and OCR is written in C++ and is very small and efficient.
Can I get banned for using GrimVault?
GrimVault is purely an informational screen capturing tool. It does not inject DLLs into the game client, read memory, or modify the game executable in any way. We have contacted Ironmace directly and confirmed that players run no risk of being banned for using GrimVault. However, users are not allowed to stream GrimVault in the Dark and Darker Discord.
Why is GrimVault flagged by Windows as an unsafe download?
Windows uses code signing certificates to verify the authenticity and integrity of software. These certificates are issued by trusted Certificate Authorities (CAs) and confirm that the software was created by a verified publisher and hasn't been tampered with. Without a valid code signing certificate, Windows may flag the software as potentially unsafe because it cannot confirm the publisher's identity. Obtaining and maintaining a code signing certificate is expensive, which is why GrimVault currently ships unsigned. If you have concerns, feel free to join our Discord and we will be happy to answer any questions you have about the program
How do price checks work?
GrimVault estimates item prices by analyzing recent marketplace sales of similar items. The database is updated frequently, pulling data from the past few days to ensure accurate pricing. Note that marketplace listings alone don't guarantee sales. If you notice any unusual price estimates, share a screenshot of the item and price in our Discord - we'll gladly investigate!
What is the difference between quality and relative quality?
Quality: An absolute measure of how good an item is. Items of the same rarity can be compared directly using this metric.
Relative Quality: How your item compares to other recently sold items of the same type and rarity. A high relative quality indicates that your item is among the best currently available on the market.
How fast is GrimVault?
GrimVault provides statistics within 2–3 seconds of hovering over an item. Various debouncing techniques ensure smooth performance and prevent your computer from running excessive OCR. You should not notice any negative FPS effects.
Troubleshooting
If you are having problems with GrimVault, here are some things you can try before getting a support response:
